The 2016 Featherstone Junior Trout Fishing Competition

The junior trout competition held on the river South Tyne on 18th June was held on the Featherstone beat with kind permission of Mr John Clark. The HDAA junior members competition last took place on the river in 2004 and has been restarted again this year.

16 children turned out on a still and cloudy day to fish low water conditions. After a briefing, fishing began at 9.30am and finished at 12.30pm. The fly anglers were the most successful; 13 fish were recorded by marshalls and returned safely. A small hares ear was amongst flies that produced fish. After the event a wonderful spread in the Comrades club was provided by Walter and Carol after which Walter presented the prizes. Thanks go to Carole and David Sanderson, and to all the marshals and volunteers; without them it wouldn't have been possible.
